We’ve all seen these movies where a very nice looking athlete rises to the occasion during tough times and pulls off a miracle to win a game or a championship or everything together at once. We have all dreamt of being this guy. We imagine how the spotlights are on us and we run the show. We have everything – fame and fortune, great looking body and millions of fans. But our idea is that we have started from the bottom and have turned into a star in a jiffy. These fairy tales do not happen in real life, do they? There is nothing like that – common folk can’t have it all and only a few of us are destined for the big stage. Maybe these muscular guys who drain the game-winning shot have been born this way. Well that’s absolutely wrong. This is the story of Tom Brady (the short version).
He is the quarterback and captain of the New England Patriots football team of the NFL. While we understand that American Football isn’t very popular in Europe but interest in the UK grows we simply cannot dismiss what this man has done. We will keep the good flashy part for last.
Brady came out of the University of Michigan where he had moderate success playing as the starting quarterback. Even though he had won a few tough games coming from behind and had gained the nickname “the comeback kid” he remained somewhat unnoticed by NFL managers. The reports on him were not impressive. He was said to have average accuracy and vision. He wasn’t at all athletic and ran the slowest among all QBs this year. This is how he dropped really deep in the 2000 NFL draft. But nobody suspected he had all the intangibles. 6 quarterbacks were selected before him and Brady was picked up by the New England Patriots with the 199th pick. He was extremely disappointed but happy at the same time. He needed just one shot in order to make history.

The starting quarterback of the Patriots Drew Bledsoe got injured in 2001 and Tom Brady took his place. He was supposed to pay just a few games but was so good that they gave him the starting QB job. And he never let it slip. Brady won the 2002 Superbowl with the Patriots and there was no doubt he was the man for the job. He won 2 more incredible Superbowls and very soon the American Football world was crazy about him. He went on to completing an unbeaten season in 2007 with 16 wins and lost to the NY Giants in the Superbowl thus having an 18-1 season. However, the Patriots won the 2015 Superbowl thus giving Brady his 4th Championship.
How popular is he? Very! Brady turned into the ultimate face of the NFL. He is tall, athletic (after some years) dresses extremely well and winds unwinnable games. His wife is the richest supermodel in the world Giselle Bundchen. People in Boston often joke that if he would ever play the main role in an action movie he would be the good cop, quarterback surfer-lawyer who saves the world from an asteroid while giving away goods to the poor. At the age of 38 Brady still rocks the field and this year happens to be one of the best of his career. He is in the battle for MVP and is highly possible that him being the “old” quarterback that he is, might just win it. We will see if the Patriots are ready for another Superbowl run.
